Gifts of the Heart
by Hortense Richardson

Not only has Hortense Richardson written beautiful poetry, but she has told many historic stories through her poems. She has written of schools and school districts, city and county work, old businesses and their machines and terminology, Hill Field Air Base working conditions, a radio station in Layton, the life of a soldier, LDS Wards and Stakes and their programs, geological landmarks, missions and missionaries and 1940's lifestyles, lacing these with the names of many of the people found in these areas.

Significant herein are also choice expressions from the heart over bereavement, loss and tragedy, and how one can derive comfort and growth in the wake of such incidents.

"Tense" has won many prizes for her poetry and other artistic creations in ceramics and photography. Another collection of her poetry, "Here and Beyond," was published by Deseret Book. 514 pages. 6x9, Paperback.

Don't Ask the Butterfly
by Sam Richardson

Most of these poems were written after Richardson's 45th year. They reflect his earlier memories, beginning with "Barefoot Boys" and follow him through life and through his rejections, and then end with a bit of treasure at the end of the rainbow. Some of the poems reflect poignant feelings, as they were created partly as a cathartic mechanism to purify and purge the sorrows over disappointments he experienced earlier in life.

This book is called "Don't Ask the Butterfly," in the spirit of the poem written with that title. Richardson focussed on that poem because it--more than the rest--reflects many of the important and profound philosophies he has on life. 114 pages. 8.5x11, Paperback.
