Writings of Allen H. Richardson

Contrasts

The peace treaty with God
Is a declaration of war with Satan

The closer we approach the City of Zion,
The farther behind we leave Babylon.

Heaven is the joy of company--
Hell is the loneliness of isolation.

Life is born out of pain,
Joy out of sorrow.

That which is in the light
Will also cast shadows.

The upward trail
Is also a downward path.

One is fed only when hungry;
Lifted only when fallen.

One is healed only when ailing;

Saved only when lost.

Glimmerings From Beyond

When I am alone--away--
Lost in the quiet of nature,
In canyons between mountains,
Where the stillness is hardly broken
By the warbling of distant birds,
While the misty haze softly settles
From the blue-tinted woodlands
Into yonder meadows,
And the deep purple shadows
Slowly stretch far to the east,
I hear the majestic mountains
Faintly echoing
The whispering breezes
Of the heavens singing
Angelic anthems of praise
To the great divine Creator
Who molded and formed such grandeur,
Still bearing His touch and print,
And by so doing, made it sacred--
Untreadable, unfathomable realms,
Where the unchanging magnificence--
The pristine beauty of it all,
Leaves me in awe,
Wondering if this is not holy ground--
Undisturbed by carnal man.
And as I wander from this realm,
I take with me this vision,
Though not completely comprehensible,
Of the beginning from the end
Within the groves and glades
Of the everlasting hills.
